Dr. Karen Fahey began her medical career  as a nurse, receiving her BSN at Montana State University in Bozeman.  After practicing nursing for over ten years, she completed medical school at the University of Utah, and did her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Deaconess and Sacred Heart hospitals in Spokane, through the University of Washington.  Dr. Fahey is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
Before moving to Grants Pass, Dr. Fahey practiced medicine in Seattle for seven years, with a special interest in HIV/AIDS. She moved to Grants Pass in 1995. She has three firm beliefs about the practice of medicine. First, it is a joint venture between the patient and doctor, and often also includes others such as family and friends. Second, good medical care requires knowing each patient not just as a diagnosis, but also as a person who requires an individualized approach.  Third, several hundred years ago, a prominent physician said: "The secret of caring for the patient is caring for the patient."  In this 21st century, Dr. Fahey believes that now, more than ever, this remains true.
Dr. Fahey is married to her best friend, has four grown children and four perfect and adorable grandchildren.  Reading is her greatest passion, but computers also get a lot of her time and energy.  She can be obsessive-compulsive about crafts, including cross-stitch, needlepoint, knitting or crocheting.  She also enjoys bicycling, being in close proximity to bodies of water and generally tries to enjoy the great outdoors.  She is the first to admit she doesn't do enough of any of these fun and healthy things, but she's slowly doing better.  Finally, she is firmly convinced that a good belly-laugh is not only healing, but mandatory, on a daily basis.
